Last Night's (5/28) So You Think You Can Dance Boring?

Is it just me??

I think Nigel needs to change the rules. . . no one over 25 years old or 50 pounds over-weight!

I LOVED Asuka (she did a sexy Latin Ballroom dance with her partner Ricky). I think she'll do great in Las Vegas. . . but might come off a little bit too cocky for America to love. We'll see.

I really don't want to mention the "dance off" between Sex and Leo.

New words = hair choreography, fairy medicine dance, Shakiro

My favorite judges comment = when Mia called Kelsea a "beautiful, disastrous, wierdo"

Just a thought . . . if a Tapper is put through to Las Vegas and then makes the top 20 - shouldn't at least one routine be Tap, since all the other forms of dance will be seen.

I REALLY LOVED the Foster Farm Chickens doing "plumping" during the last commercial. Now do you believe that I was bored with this episode of So You Think You Can Dance??

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Episode 2 - Standard Faire

I thought that last night's show was pretty standard stuff. I would have thought that the Miami auditions and the Memphis auditions could have brought a little more flare to So You Think You Can Dance. Even the judges seemed a bit lack luster.

Here are my impressions of the dancers . . .

Miami auditions-
Janette and Romulo - great tricks that got a scream out of Mary Murphy. Though they need to stick to Salsa and not reveal their lack of break skills ever again.
Joeseph Smith - fresh style, very entertaining.
Silky - WOW, great fusion of tap and hip-hop. amazing cartwheel into slide. original. started tapping to "get the girls".
Paris - not sure if I'm buying the whole Miss Washinton story. Interesting contemporary dance
Geo Smith - Birdman, eh.
Talia - the Widow. I can feel for her but I thought she was a bit weak in her dance performance.

Memphis auditions-
Marico - Memhpis jukin'. This guy is a pure illusionist. Not sure if what you are seeing is real .
Caitlin - nice shorts
Anna - what's with the one shoe??
Travis - w/football coach for a dad. Thought he was also weak. Nice relationship with his dad.
Evan - classic Jazz. eh, I'm not into the retro thing.
Guerra twins - very cute. very synchronized
Ryan - Evans brother, Whoppie Tap. nice tap skills. didn't like when he tried to take credit for his brother's dance

What was with all those kids dropping their tickets????

Can't wait till we get to Vegas.

Coach Roach

SHA - WIZ - AM !!!

The death of a father, re-construction of a hip, death of a husband, dreadful "dreads" (that matched his shirt), a "terrible" case of bronchitis, brothers, sisters, and twins. . . . Do you think you are reading about "The Young and the Restless" ?. . . no - it's just another episode of auditions for So You Think You Can Dance!!!

Well, I got home from the studio and sat down to watch So You Think You Can Dance. . . and my DVR had no sound until Janette and Romulo performed. . . so maybe some of you can bring me up to speed on what I missed.

The dancers that I loved were Erik (the hip-hop tapper that danced to "Thriller"), Paris (she wore a net skirt - and 3/4 of her body were legs!!), Henry, Alex, (saw very little of them, but they did lyrical and had great extensions and feet), and Anna (but why was she wearing only one shoe??).

I really liked the twins Lauren and Lydia - I think if they can survive Las Vegas, America will love them. I also was very impressed with the creativity of the brothers Evan and Ryan. Evan did a Gene Kelly style of dance and Ryan did a "whoopee cushion" tap. I think Evan will make it through Las Vegas. . . but Ryan might be too old (and bald).

Now of course there were quite a few that shouldn't have bothered putting their dance duds on. Wislande - did she think it was a Spearmint Rhino audition. The twins, Jennifer and Jessica - too old (28) and what was with those furry leggings?? Chris - "electric"??? Dustin - hip-hop-martial arts????

New words = Memphis Jukin & Sha-Wiz-Am

Sex is coming.

Watch it tonight. . . comment tomorrow

So You Think You Can Dance Judge Apologizes

Well, it's official. . .

Nigel has apologized for his "Brokeback Ballroom" comments. So much for free speech!! Personally, I am very disappointed that he apologized. I thought that during the show he was very polite to Misha & Mitch - and even though they both fell to the floor - the judges let them go on to the choreography part of the audition. Nigel's comments were made on his own personal blog. . . and since they were his opinions - they should not be open to censor or critism. This has been an on-going discussion in our house since the "Miss California incident". How can you be asked your opinion and then be penalized for having that opinion?? People watch So You Think You Can Dance not only for the dancing, but for the judges comments. This is entertainment. Some people need to lighten up. . . or maybe they should just take the Hot Tamale Train to Siberia!!!!

Just my opinion. . . and I'm not gonna apologize!!!!!!

Judge's Critic of Same Sex Ballroom Dancers Sparks Controversy

So You Think You Can Dance judge Nigel Lythgoe has sparked the flame of gay rights activists over his comments on the So You Think You Can Dance premier. Nigel, who is a judge on the show and an executive producer for American Idol, sharply criticized contestants Misha Belfer and Mitchel Kibel after they auditioned with a same-sex samba routine.

Following the pair’s less than polished performance, Nigel told the pair, "I think you probably alienate a lot of our audience. I mean, we've always had the guys dance together on the show, but they've never really done it in each other's arms before. Do you know what? I'd like to see you both dancing with a girl."

Following the show, Nigel backed-up his comments by posting to his online blog: "The same-sex ballroom guys did remind me of Blades of Glory. However, I'm not a fan of Brokeback ballroom."

Officials at gay rights group GLAAD, who are demanding an apology from the TV mogul, have blasted his comments.

GLAAD president Neil G. Giuliano stated, "It's unacceptable for this kind of blatant homophobia to occur. Fox Entertainment and Nigel Lythgoe owe Misha, Mitchel and the whole LGBT community an apology."
