Thursday, June 11 The FIRST CUT

The three couples in the bottom were...

PARIS & TONY,
ASUKA & VITOLIO,
KARLA & JONATHON.

Each of the 6 dancers got to perform their solos. I thought all the solos were a little weak.

The 2 dancers that were eliminated were PARIS & TONY. Truthfully, I thought KARLA should have gone home. . . but TONY should not have even been in the Top 20 - so I am totally OK with him being the first guy sent home!!

I don't think there will be that many "surprises" in these early eliminations on So You Think You Can Dance. Since we are just beginning to get to know these dancers - I feel that they are being judged more on the choreography than the actual dancing.

??? I wonder who picks out CAT DEELEY'S wardrobe ???

So You Think You Can Dance 2009 is now officially underway !!!!

For last night's episode of So You Think You Can Dance, the dancers were paired up and we got to see a VERY entertaining program.

I LOVED the contemporary dance with MELISSA and ADE. I LOVED the hip-hop routine with JANINE and PHILLIP. I thought the foxtrot danced by JANETTE and BRANDON was beautiful . . . but will it make people call in?? (past seasons have proven that the foxtrot and waltz are not popular with the public).

I was disappointed in the Broadway routine that ASUKA and VITOLIO danced. RANDI and EVAN's jazz routine was only OK. PARIS & TONY's hip-hop routine was not together and the headphones were distracting. And ASHLEY and KUPONO's jazz routine (crash test dummies) was just too weird for me.

I am not going to predict who the bottom 3 couples will be (that's funny - 'cuz if you read the above paragraph - I just did!!). It is just too early in the competition. . . and some of my early favorites (ASUKA, KUPONO) didn't have dances that really showed their strengths. I also felt that 7 out of the 10 couples didn't really have the "chemistry" that the judges are always talking about. But it's only the first week.

It's a fact - "America's favorite dancer" is not only going to have to be a strong dancer, but have a personality that makes you want to pick up the phone for him (or her) every week.

So make sure you call in for your favorite dancer.
